Megalong Valley Tea Rooms

If you are heading into the Blue Mountains with a dog, the Megalong Valley Tea Rooms are worth the drive down into the valley. We sat outside on the terrace, ate well, and looked out at the mountains the whole time. The view alone makes it a place I would come back to.

A few things that are useful to know before you go:

  • Dog-friendly outdoor terrace. Dogs are welcome at the outside tables. Worth choosing a quieter time if your dog is reactive — it can get busy.

  • Open 7 days, 9am to 3pm. The kitchen closes at 2:30pm, with takeaway afternoon tea available until 3pm.

  • No weekend bookings. Group bookings (10+) are only taken Monday to Friday. Weekends and public holidays are walk-in only, so be prepared to wait at peak times.

  • It's a working farm too. The tea rooms double as the farm gate for Lot 101 next door. On Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm there's a Farmgate Market with fresh produce, breads, eggs, honey and jams.

  • The menu is straightforward and local. Famous scones with housemade blackberry jam and chantilly cream, the Megalong breakfast, toasties, a pot pie of the day. Coffee, tea, local cider and Mountain Culture beers on the drinks list.

  • Address: 824 Megalong Road, Megalong Valley NSW. It's been operating on this site since 1956.

Pair it with a walk in the valley afterwards — the drive down from Blackheath is itself part of the experience, and there is a lot of open country on either side of the road.
